SKI SKILL DESCRIPTION

 

STANCE & BALANCE

  • relaxed athletic stance;
  • centre of gravity over base of support;
  • mobility in all joints – hips, knees and ankles;
  • at minimum, hands in shoulder width, forward position within peripheral view and free to move.

 

PIVOTING

  • both skis and legs turn simultaneously independent of upper body.

 

SKILL DESCRIPTION

POOR: Skill consistently demonstrated improperly and that the desired result is not achieved except on the easiest of terrain

FAIR: Skill is demonstrated properly but only occasionally

GOOD: Skill is demonstrated consistently but the skier may have occasional difficulty on more difficult terrain or conditions

EXCELLENT: Skill is demonstrated consistently on all terrains and under all conditions.

 

EDGE CONTROL

  • angle of ski with snow created by a combination of angulation and inclination.

 

TIMING & CO-ORDINATION

  • well timed movements through linked turns with a demonstrated use of a pole plant

 

PRESSURE CONTROL

  • harmonizing the skills to create fluid movements;
  • constant ski to snow contact;
  • able to maintain steering angle through completion of turn.
